Further Inspiration from BELONGtoEU
This event is part of the European Skills & VET Week 2026, an initiative of the European Commission organised by Cedefop.
The programme of the Summer School in Athens also introduced BELONGtoEU – Learn and Teach, another Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Network coordinated by APRO Formazione.
The project aims to strengthen EU education in vocational training through teacher training, educational resources, classroom experimentation and international cooperation.
Its needs analysis, involving 113 VET students and 43 teachers, identified several challenges shared across different educational contexts. EU topics are often perceived as complex or distant from everyday life, while educators face difficulties integrating European content into already demanding vocational curricula.
The analysis highlighted the importance of making European learning concrete, experiential, accessible and adaptable to different VET sectors.
During the workshop, teachers were invited to explore these principles through an activity entitled “Where's the EU?”. The task involved designing an educational trip to Brussels and identifying where European Union rules, rights and opportunities influence each stage of the journey.
Examples included passenger rights, free movement, roaming, travel accessibility and access to healthcare abroad.
The activity illustrated how an international educational visit can become much more than a mobility experience: it can also provide an opportunity to recognise the practical impact of the European Union on students' daily lives.
